In March of 2011, Fort Worth issued an RFP with the goal of offering multiple payment options for downtown parking. After reviewing bids from 11 companies and interviewing the finalists, Fort Worth chose Parkeon as its preferred vendor. Forth Worth Parking Manager, Peter Elliott, said, "We selected Parkeon because of its strong reputation and experience in working with cities such as ours, as well as the quality and value of their products."
Residents and visitors to the "City of Cowboys and Culture" will enjoy the ability to pay with either coins or credit cards on the Parkeon Strada Pay Stations. This will be a welcome improvement since many meters in Forth Worth are set at $1.25 per hour. Motorists will be able to take their Pay & Display receipt from one space to the other as long as it is valid, encouraging people to stay in the downtown area.
"It is really important that we make parking simple and easy in Fort Worth," said Elliott. "Giving people the option to pay with a credit card allows them to buy as much time as they are allowed, without having to carry a pocket full of coins." It did not take long for motorists to take advantage of the new pay stations. During the first week of use, time purchased with credit cards was greater than 33% of all transactions.
